August 25, 2001 was the day the world lost one of music’s brightest stars and most angelic spirits, Aaliyah. The actress/singer was wrapping up shooting her video for her then new single “Rock The Boat,” from her third self titled studio album released that year.

It’s been 15 years since her passing, and Aaliyah’s influence is still seen throughout the industry, and her music still touches fans after over a decade after her death. Just this summer, “Rock The Boat” was sampled for a summer banger HERE, and her music is being redone HERE by a younger generation who will now know of her.

In honor of her anniversary, which falls on today, we celebrate her life with Throwback Thursday.
