We told you yesterday that the ‘Empire’ soundtrack was set to take the number one spot on Billboard album charts but at time of posting the final numbers were not in yet.
On Wednesday morning, hours before the season 1 finale of the hit show, the final tally is in and as we reported the 18 song compilation indeed is the number 1 album in the country with 130,000 units sold in its first week.
The soundtrack features most of the songs heard on the show weekly with the exception of a few, and houses appearances by Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Juicy J, Rita Ora, Estelle and the cast members.
As we also told you Madonna’s new album ‘Rebel Heart’ which dropped last week lands in the no.2 spot behind the soundtrack.
Madonna comes in at No. 2 with Rebel Heart. The set that serves as her 13th studio album, features Nicki Minaj, Nas, and Chance the Rapper, sold 121,000 units and earned Madonna her 21st top 10 album. Congrats to both team Empire and Madonna.
Despite the news there alot of Madonna fans who aren’t happy and are debating whether she actually nabbed the top spot or not.
According to Billboard, even though Rebel Heart sold the most PHYSICAL copies — 116,000 — its final number including track equivalent album sales is about 121,000. Empire sold 110,000 actual PHYSICAL copies but based on the album’s single sales and streaming it brought their grand total to the 130,000.
