VH1 previously announced a few weeks ago that they were bringing back their award show “Hip Hop Honors,” and that this year would focus on saluting female MC’s past and present.

Well this week they have added Missy Elliott to the growing list of honorees. Missy will join Queen Latifah as the second confirmed honoree at this year’s “Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens” event, which is slated to air live from New York on July 11 at 9 p.m. ET. Via the official VH1 press release:

After a six-year hiatus, the revered VH1 HIP HOP HONORS is back celebrating the best and brightest in hip hop with a twist. This year’s live event will pay homage to the female pioneers, trailblazers and trend-setters who led a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today. Additional hugely influential female artists being honored will be announced later this week.

Missy Elliott has achieved and maintained success over three decades. The critically acclaimed, five time Grammy Award-winning producer/songwriter/singer/rapper has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. In addition to releasing innovative and acclaimed music, Missy Elliott has become synonymous with groundbreaking music videos with the video for her most recent single, “WTF (Where They From),” racking up over 40 million views on YouTube. All six of Missy Elliott’s studio albums have been RIAA platinum certified or better, making her the only female rapper to have achieved this.

“VH1 HIP HOP HONORS: ALL HAIL THE QUEENS” will air Monday, July 11th at 9PM ET LIVE from New York

Who else would you like to see get honored at this years show? We have a few suggestions!
