Netflix is officially taking us back to Hillman College!
The long-awaited revival/sequel to the legendary sitcom A Different World has officially been announced for a Fall 2026 premiere on Netflix — and as we previously told you, the cast is stacked with both beloved originals and a brand new generation ready to carry the legacy forward.
The new series will center around Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, as she begins her own journey at Hillman College. Returning fan-favorite cast members include Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer, Darryl M. Bell, Dawnn Lewis, Glynn Turman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Charnele Brown, Karen Malina White, and Ajai Sanders.
Joining the next generation of Hillman students are Maleah Joi Moon, Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Kennedi Reece, while additional cast members include Tichina Arnold, Raven Goodwin, Jenifer Lewis, Method Man, and Norman Nixon Jr.
The revival is being executive produced by Debbie Allen, with Felicia Pride serving as showrunner, promising a blend of nostalgia, culture, comedy, music, and timely conversations that made the original series such a groundbreaking moment in television history.
Originally debuting in 1987 as a spinoff of The Cosby Show, A Different World became one of the most influential Black sitcoms ever, spotlighting HBCU life, Black excellence, relationships, activism, and young adulthood through the lens of Hillman College. The series launched the careers of several stars and remains a cultural staple decades later.
With Netflix officially confirming the revival for this fall, the countdown back to Hillman officially begins.
