Another major casting shake-up could be coming to The Real Housewives of Atlanta—and this one may include the return of the franchise’s most recognizable original star.
According to a new report from Reality Blurb, Shamea Morton allegedly has not been asked to return for Season 18 following her dramatic second season as a full-time peach holder. The outlet also claims Bravo is interested in bringing NeNe Leakes back into the fold as the network prepares for another round of casting changes.
However, Bravo has not officially announced the Season 18 cast, and neither Shamea nor NeNe has publicly confirmed the report. It also remains unclear whether NeNe would directly replace Shamea or if the two alleged casting developments are simply part of a larger effort to revamp the ensemble.
Shamea’s reported departure would likely surprise viewers after she became one of the central figures of Season 17. Her fractured friendship with longtime bestie Porsha Williams played out throughout the season and at the reunion, while her feuds with Angela Oakley and several other cast members kept her at the center of the drama. Bravo recently confirmed that Shamea and Porsha remain estranged, although Shamea admitted she still misses the close, family-like bond they once shared.
Despite delivering plenty of storylines, Shamea also faced significant backlash from viewers over her behavior throughout the season. If the report is accurate, producers may be looking to shift the show in another direction instead of continuing the growing divide between Shamea and the rest of the cast.
Meanwhile, the possibility of NeNe returning would mark a huge full-circle moment for the franchise. Leakes also took to social media sharing a cryptic post to her Instagram stories that has some speculating she is confirming the news.
NeNe helped launch RHOA in 2008 and quickly became one of the biggest personalities in the entire Real Housewives universe. She last appeared as a full-time cast member during Season 12 before exiting the series in 2020 amid a highly publicized breakdown in her relationship with Bravo and Andy Cohen.
In recent years, however, the door to a reunion has slowly reopened. NeNe previously said she would consider returning to RHOA if the opportunity—and the paycheck—were right. She has also made progress in repairing her relationship with Bravo and Cohen and is officially returning to the network for the upcoming Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th special.
That upcoming appearance has already fueled speculation that Bravo could be testing the waters for a larger NeNe comeback.
Despite the rumors, Andy took to his radio show on Monday to shut down the rumors saying the current cast will all return for season 18.
Stay tuned!
