Katy Perry, Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz certainly have something to celebrate today, as their superbowl halftime performance became the most watched halftime show EVER in history. Not only that the entire game became the most watched show of any kind in television history!

According to TV By The Numbers the game was seen by a record breaking 114.4 million viewers (6:31-10:10 p.m. ET), topping by 2.2 million viewers last year’s Super Bowl XLVIII on FOX and is the biggest audience to watch a television program in U.S. history. While the halftime show brought it 118.5 million, up 3 million+ from Bruno Mars’ halftime show last year which brought in 115.3 million.

“Last night’s Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl ranks among the most exciting sporting events in U.S. history,” said Mark Lazarus, Chairman, NBC Sports Group. “Super Bowl XLIX delivered for all of our partners, proving once again that the Super Bowl is the most dominant and consistent property on television.”

Meanwhile, Missy has experienced a resurgence thanks to the halftime show which she clearly dominated! As multiple past singles of hers made their way into the top of iTunes charts on Monday. To start 2002’s ‘Work It’ ranks highest at #4, while 2001’s ‘Get Ur Freak On’ sits at #6. ‘Lose Control’, which was released in 2005 and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, rounds out the resurgence at #12.

She took to Twitter to thank Katy for the chance to perform and also had a little fun with the fact that a lot of the younger viewers weren’t aware of who she was and many thought she was a new artist.
