Chris Brown has officially entered a new era with the release of his highly anticipated 12th studio album, BROWN, available now via RCA Records and CBE.
The expansive 27-track project arrives as the follow-up to his Grammy-winning album 11:11 and continues Brown’s run as one of R&B’s most commercially successful and consistently active artists.
The album title, stands for “Break Rules Only When Necessary,” with the project blending R&B, hip-hop, pop, dancehall, afrobeats, and soulful slow jams throughout its nearly hour-and-a-half runtime. The release also marks Brown’s first full-length studio album since 2023 and comes after months of teasing the new era online.
The project includes an extensive lineup of collaborations featuring Bryson Tiller, Leon Thomas, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Lucky Daye, Fridayy, Tank, Vybz Kartel, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, among others.
Production and songwriting credits on the album also include major industry names like Raphael Saadiq, Bryan-Michael Cox, The Monsters & Strangerz, and Jonathan Bellion, helping shape the album’s mix of classic R&B influences and modern production styles.
Leading into the release, Brown rolled out several singles from the project including “Holy Blindfold,” “It Depends” featuring Bryson Tiller, “Obvious,” and the fan-favorite “Fallin’” with Leon Thomas. The latter quickly generated conversation online thanks to its blues-inspired instrumentation and throwback R&B feel, with many fans praising the chemistry between the two singers.
Additional records on the album include “Call Your Name” featuring GloRilla and Sexyy Red, “Perfect Timing” with Fridayy, “Slow Jamz” featuring Lucky Daye, and “F**k & Party” alongside Vybz Kartel.
Ahead of the album’s release, Brown also sparked a frenzy online after unveiling the official album cover artwork. The visual — featuring Brown posed in a tan suit and fedora in a dramatic reclined pose — drew comparisons to classic 80s and 90s R&B album covers from legends like Michael Jackson, Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, and Lionel Richie, fueling heavy discussion across social media throughout the rollout.
The release of BROWN also arrives just ahead of Brown’s upcoming stadium tour with Usher, which is already shaping up to be one of the biggest R&B tours of the year. The tour is expected to feature music from the new album alongside hits spanning both artists’ decades-long catalogs, with multiple dates reportedly seeing overwhelming demand following the initial announcement.
