It may be hard to believe but Iggy Azalea has just done something that only one other female rapper has been able to do–top Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. A little more than a week after Forbes’ released their controversial article pegging the Aussie bred MC as the one who runs hip hop and totally omitting Nicki Minaj, now comes the chart news. According to reports:

After making a steady climb up the charts since its February release, Iggy’s “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX ascends from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

“Fancy” becomes the second song by a solo female rap artist to top the Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill’s 1998 hit “Doo Wop (That Thing).” In 2011, Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” came close, but peaked at No. 3.

To date, the song has sold more than 1.3 million copies in the United States alone.

Additionally, the ‘Clueless’ inspired video for the single has racked up almost 60 million views since it’s premiere back in March.

It is also worth noting that according to Billboard: Azalea additionally becomes only the fourth solo female rapper ever to top the Hot 100 (keyword SOLO). Lauryn Hill was the first, having taken her debut solo hit “Doo Wop (That Thing)” to No. 1 for two weeks in November 1998. (She had first made her mark with the Fugees.) In 2001, Lil’ Kim led for five weeks with Christina Aguilera, Mya and P!nk on “Lady Marmalade,” while Shawnna assisted Ludacris on “Stand Up,” which topped the Dec. 6, 2003, chart.

Notably, a pair of other prominent female rappers have yet to reach the Hot 100’s summit. Among her nine top 10s, Missy Elliott climbed to No. 2 twice: for 10 weeks in 2002 with “Work It” and for seven frames in 2005 as a guest on Ciara‘s “1, 2 Step.” Nicki Minaj has also tallied nine top 10s, reaching No. 3 twice, both in 2011: as featured on Britney Spears‘ “Till the World Ends” and with her own “Super Bass.” This week, Minaj debuts at No. 47 on the Hot 100 with her new single “Pills N Potions.”

Way to go Iggy, looks like female hip hop is headed back to its glory, now if we can just get some of the vets to drop some new material and push these kind of numbers!
