After much speculation it has been confirmed that Disney actress and singer Zendaya Coleman has landed the coveted role of Aaliyah in the much anticipated bio-pic centered around the life of the R&B singer.
The biopic — Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, based on the bestselling book Aaliyah: More Than a Woman — will tell the story of the fallen angel’s life and death, from her debut on Star Search to her rise to her fame and, finally, her tragic passing. Zendaya who garnered major attention during her time as a contestant on ‘Dancing with The Stars’ will record four of Aaliyah’s hit songs for the film.
Zendaya who’s first single from her 2o13 debut album sold more than 1 million copies, took to Twitter to confirm and express her excitement on landing the role.
The film is set to start filming in the coming weeks and is said to be released before the end of the year. Aaliyah’s mother and brother will not be participating in the creation of the project, but Aaliyah’s uncle Barry Hankerson who was responsible for her career on his Blackground Records will be spearheading the project which is set to air on Lifetime. As previously reported the network is also working on the upcoming Whitney Houston bio-pic.
