The Snowfall story isn’t over just yet!
FX has officially dropped the first full trailer for The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, the highly anticipated continuation of the Snowfall universe — and this time, Wanda and Leon are taking center stage.
Gail Bean and Isaiah John reprise their roles as Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons, with the new series picking up as the two attempt to reinvent their lives amid a changing Los Angeles in the 1990s.
While Snowfall explored the rise and devastating impact of the crack cocaine epidemic in 1980s South Central Los Angeles, The Drop moves the story forward into a new era as the streets, culture and music industry begin to change.
The trailer shows Wanda and Leon trying to navigate that transition while the explosive growth of West Coast hip-hop creates new opportunities, new power players and, naturally, new problems. The pair may be trying to build something different from the lives they previously knew, but escaping the streets — and everything that came with them — won’t be easy.
Fans of Snowfall will remember Leon and Wanda’s complicated journey throughout the original series. By its conclusion, the two had survived addiction, violence, loss and the collapse of Franklin Saint’s empire while attempting to find a new purpose beyond the drug game.
Now, The Drop gives their story room to continue while expanding the Snowfall universe into a completely different chapter of Los Angeles history.
The first trailer dropped August 17 and gives fans their clearest look yet at how the new series will combine the gritty world established by Snowfall with the emerging rap scene of the early ’90s.
FX has set the premiere for September 8, with the series airing on FX and streaming on Hulu.
For fans who’ve been missing Snowfall since the acclaimed series wrapped its six-season run, September is about to get very interesting.
The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premieres September 8 on FX and Hulu.
