The streets of Los Angeles are calling again!
FX has officially announced the premiere date and details for its highly anticipated Snowfall spinoff series, The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, and fans won’t have to wait much longer to return to the world that had viewers locked in for six seasons.
The new drama is set to premiere Tuesday, September 8 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu, with one new episode dropping weekly. The first season will consist of eight episodes and will also be available internationally on Disney+.
Gail Bean and Isaiah John are reprising their fan-favorite roles as Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons, picking up in 1990s Los Angeles as the city transitions from the crack epidemic era explored in Snowfall into the rise of West Coast rap.
According to the series details, The Drop follows Wanda and Leon as they attempt to reinvent themselves while navigating ambition, survival, street politics, and the booming music industry. Wanda is determined to help take West Coast rap mainstream, assembling a group of rising talent while trying to build something lasting in a world still shaped by violence, loyalty, and the fallout from the streets.
Leon, meanwhile, is focused on leaving his past behind and seeking redemption through his free legal clinic, creating tension as Wanda’s growing ambitions pull them deeper into the overlap of music, money, and street influence.
Joining Bean and John are Asante Blackk as Lamar Kinsey, Peyton Alex Smith as James Kinsey, and rapper/actor Simmie “Buddy” Sims III as Artillery, a volatile local rapper caught up with law enforcement.
The cast also includes Mykelti Williamson, Nicki Micheaux, Brandon Mychal Smith, Isidora Goreshter, Eric Balfour, Richard Portnow, Zaire Adams, Demetrius Grosse, and Quincy Chad, who returns from Snowfall.
Behind the scenes, the series comes from acclaimed producer Malcolm Spellman, who executive produces alongside Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, Trevor Engelson, and Paul Garnes. The series is produced by FX Productions.
Snowfall, created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron, originally aired from 2017 to 2023 and became one of FX’s most talked-about dramas for its gripping look at the crack cocaine epidemic and its impact on South Central Los Angeles.
Now, The Drop: A Snowfall Saga is set to expand that universe through a new lens: the explosive rise of hip-hop, the birth of West Coast rap dominance, and the complicated cost of trying to turn pain into power.
