Pharrell Williams is taking a page out of his good pals Beyonce & Jay-Z‘s playbooks, as the superstar producer/singer has just made a surprise announcement that his upcoming second studio album has been given a release date, for less than two weeks!
Skateboard P, has announced ‘Girl’ will hit stores on March 3 just one day after he performs on the Oscars, where his hit single “Happy’ is also nominated. Currently, ‘Happy’ is the only song listed on for the 10 track set according to iTunes where the album can be pre-ordered, but Pharrell recently spoke on the body of work that fans should expect:
“When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind,” says Pharrell in a statement. “One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called ‘G I R L’. I hope you like it.”
‘Girl’ will be the follow up to his first solo release ‘In My Mind’ which dropped in 2006 and he also released a Neptunes compilation in 2003, and four albums with his band, N. E. R. D
To build anticipation for the new album Pharrell released a trailer for the album documenting his recording process, and also spoke with Zane Lowe at this weeks Brit awards to explains the title of the album. Peep all of that below.
