After teasing with two buzz tracks this year (‘Jerk Ribs’ & ‘Been Given A Morning’) eclectic singer and performer Kelis has announced her official return to music. The ‘Milkshake’ singer has signed to UK indie label Ninja Tune and will release her sixth studio album ‘Food’ on April 28, 2014.
Speaking on her new material Kelis expressed:
“I’m really happy to be partnering with Ninja Tune on my new record. This is the album I’ve wanted to make for a long time and I want the team around me to be as excited and energetic about it as I am. I’m also very happy to be working with some of the most creative people in the industry,”
“I’m really excited, my album is done,” Kelis previously tweeted. “It sounds like love and summer balled up into one!”
Food is “a soul record that’s as raw and alternative as it is classic.” according to the official press release.
The album will serve as the follow up to Kelis’ 2010 EDM influenced studio album ‘Flesh Tones’
As longtime supporters of Kelis we are really anticipating this new album and are glad to hear she has dropped the EDM in her music and is going for a more soulful record. One can only hope its as classic as her first album ‘Kaleidoscope’ or her 2003 masterpiece ‘Tasty’
