The global icon made an unexpected appearance on the red carpet at the 2026 BET Awards on Sunday night, instantly becoming one of the biggest moments before the show even began. Held live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, this year’s ceremony is already packed with star power, but Janet’s arrival gave the carpet that legendary glow only she can bring.
Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty, kept things effortlessly classic rocking a Tupac tee and reminding everyone why she remains one of the most beloved and respected figures in music, fashion, and pop culture. Janet doesn’t have to do much to command attention — her presence alone is an event.
This year’s BET Awards are being hosted by Druski and will celebrate the best in Black music, film, television, sports, and culture. The night is also set to include major honors for several icons, including Teyana Taylor, who will receive the Icon of the Year Award, and Ms. Lauryn Hill, who will be honored with the Living Legend Icon Award.
But before the show even got underway, Janet’s surprise red carpet appearance already had fans talking, posting, and praising the living legend across social media.
Janet has a long history with BET and the culture at large, including receiving the Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award at the 2015 BET Awards. So seeing her back in the building for Culture’s Biggest Night feels like a full-circle moment — and a reminder that there are icons, and then there is Janet Jackson.
