R&B singer J. Brown is officially entering his next chapter with the release of his new single “LATE,” continuing an impressive run that has made him one of contemporary R&B’s most consistent voices.
Over the past seven years, the Detroit native has scored three consecutive No. 1 singles and eight consecutive Top 10 singles on the Billboard R&B charts, building a catalog that continues to connect with listeners.
On “LATE,” Brown delivers a smooth, soulful record centered on knowing your worth and refusing to remain someone’s second option. Rooted in the classic Motown sound while still feeling current, the track finds him addressing a relationship where the love only seems to arrive when every other option is gone.
The song is already gaining traction at radio, with markets including Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Atlanta, New York, Miami, Toronto and Chicago among those giving “LATE” early support.
Brown’s connection to soul music runs deep. Born and raised in Detroit, the birthplace of Motown, he was introduced to music early through his mother, a former Motown artist. His influences span generations and genres, including Usher, Nas, Jimi Hendrix and Sting, while his earliest performing experience came through singing in church.
His journey would eventually take him to Grambling State University and later to a recording deal with Universal Republic Records.
More recently, Brown continued his chart success with “TRUE LOVE,” from his acclaimed album Just a Matter of Time. The single reached No. 1 and added another major milestone to his growing list of R&B hits.
