‘Empire’ star Malik Yoba has been making his rounds and has been quite bothered by the fact that his character Vernon Turner was killed off during the show’s two hour season finale last week.

Malik says he received the call from Lee Daniels informing him his character would be killed off but he isn’t sure whether the decision to do so came from FOX execs or Lee himself. He says that although he is not bitter about the situation he really wishes the writers would have allowed his character to progress and really get into his development.

Well now according to Power99.com there was more to the story on why Malik was killed off. The site is reporting that Yoba was reportedly fired from Empire for drugs, with insiders saying his substance abuse was causing problems on the set and eventually prompted Fox execs to step in.

Coincidental considering the fact that his character also had a cocaine habit which prompted Terrence Howard’s character Lucious to temporarily fire Vernon once he found out he was back on drugs in the episode before the finale. His character returned in the finale only to be killed off.

Nor FOX, Lee Daniels or Yoba have commented on the alleged reasoning, but the story just leaked so we are sure once he gets wind of it, he will speak out.

In case you missed it, check out one of Malik’s promo round stops last week at ‘The View’ as well as an interview he did on The Combat Jack Show where he really goes in on his issues with the killing off of his character.
