The day has finally come unfortunately and it looks like Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and her husband will both be serving time for their well documented bank and bankruptcy fraud case.
Teresa Giudice was sentenced to 15 months in prison, which will begin Jan. 5. While her husband Giuseppe “Joe” Giudice was sentenced Thursday to 41 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $414,588 for bank and bankruptcy fraud according to Huffington Post.
The judge said she will not serve her sentence at the same time as her husband, for the sake of their four children. Her sentence also includes two years of probation and $414,588 in restitution payments.
The Giudices appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas at federal court in Newark, New Jersey, at 10 a.m. to hear the final verdict in the fraud case brought against them by the federal government last year.
Salas reprimanded Teresa and Joe for the “glaring omissions” in their financial disclosure forms given to the probation office on Aug. 19, NorthJersey.com reported. The forms, which were actually due in by March 4, did not include items like cars, recreational vehicles, home furnishings and construction equipment when submitted.
The prosecutor said this represents a “pattern of deception, dishonesty and concealment” and that the couple was “not transparent in the least; this concealment is intentional.”
Joe is an Italian citizen and could be deported upon completion of his prison term.
Terasa has put out a statement following the verdicts regarding her daughters— Gia, 13, Gabriella, 9, Milania, 8, and Audriana, 4 — saying:
“My daughters are my life. I don’t care about the TV show, or materialistic things. My daughters are all that I care about, and I feel so bad that my 13-year-old has any idea what is going on with all of this. I am more sorry than anyone will know. The silver lining is that I can learn and show my daughters. I know everything happens for a reason, and I hope I can find that reason.”
Teresa is set to start her sentence in January.
