Fans of ‘The Wendy Williams Show‘ were shocked when the daytime diva announced weeks ago that she was taking an unexpected break from the show, due to a recent diagnosis of Graves’ disease.

Viewers recall that back in October of last year, Wendy collapsed live on air, leaving everyone wondering what had happened, and also questioning her health. She returned the next day and revealed that she was simply dehydrated and had suffered from overheating due to her Halloween day costume.

Well fast forward February 2018, Wendy seemed a bit off on several episodes according to faithful watchers, and even seemingly was stumbling verbally and physically, struggling to make her way through each show. It wasn’t until an episode in mid February that she revealed that she indeed was struggling with her health and was taking a 2-3 week break from the show. Now Wendy is set to return with live shows next week, but she herself won’t don the purple chair just yet. Get into the statement below from her official site.

In nine seasons of “The Wendy Williams Show” Wendy has never taken a sick day, until two weeks ago when she announced that she would take a three-week, doctor ordered break. She needed time to get her medication and levels from her long-public battle with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease in sync.

Wendy can’t wait to get back in her purple chair on Monday, March 19 – and we are counting down the hours.

While Wendy continues to put her health first she called on friend of the show Jerry O’Connell to fill in for her as the first guest host in the show’s nine-year-plus history.

“Jerry has been such a good friend to me and the show,” Wendy explained. “We’re happy to welcome him as a guest host while I’m out getting much needed rest. Can’t wait to get back in my purple chair!”

Jerry is a super-fan. “I am so excited to help out and fill in. We all know nobody can fill the purple chair like Wendy, but I am honored to sit with her co-hosts and to bring the many fans all the Hot Topics they love,” Jerry said about guest hosting. “ Like Wendy tells us, I am going to Say It Like I Mean It.”

“The Wendy Williams Show” returns LIVE on Monday, March 12 with guest host Jerry O’Connell and Wendy’s back in her purple chair LIVE on Monday, March 19.

We are wishing Wendy a speedy recovery. Will you be watching next week as her guest hosts cover the show?
