In news that comes as a shock, beloved R&B singer Jesse Powell has reportedly passed away at the age of 51.

The Grammy-Nominated R&B crooner who is best known for his mega-smash hit ‘You‘ has been relatively low-key in recent years, but early Wednesday morning (Sep. 14) his sister, Tamara Powell confirmed the news of her brother’s passing via her official Instagram.

Tamara issued an official statement on behalf of the family via her IG stories, and on her page which you can view below. It was later confirmed that Jesse passed away on September 13, a day after his 51st birthday.

While fans may not have heard from Jesse in recent years, his sisters Trina and Tamara spoke about his whereabouts in an interview last year and revealed that he was doing well.

When quizzed on why fans don’t see him on social media or performing often, the sisters confirmed that the success of his hit ‘You’ has made life comfortable enough that he doesn’t have to tour or make new music these days if he doesn’t want to. However, he was still very humbled and grateful for his fans.

This Slow Jams IG page shared a snippet from my @Checkthe_Rhymes interview with Jesse’s sisters Trina and Tamara from last year and I asked them where he was. I hope he saw all the love he got in the comments from that interview. Jesse Powell was loved. #RipJessePowell pic.twitter.com/HBj96ipygK
