The 90’s and early 2000’s bred some of the hottest female groups who brought us some good ol’ nostalgic music which we unfortunately just don’t see anymore. One of those groups was R&B trio 702 which was comprised of members Meelah, Irish and Orish.

The Las Vegas natives released two super successful albums No Doubt in 1996 and 702 in 1999 which both spawned smash hits ultimately earning the ladies various award nominations and gold certifications for both projects. The ladies were on a career high, touring with some of the biggest acts such as Brandy, New Edition, Blackstreet and Keith Sweat.

Following their second album, which was led by the female anthem and mega hit ‘Where My Girls At?’ 702 took a hiatus and Meelah decided to part from the group and go solo. She briefly became the protégé of Faith Evans and signed a deal to be managed by Faith and her husband, Todd Russaw, under their Pedigree MGI Management. Kameelah sang backup and wrote 3 songs for Faith Evans’ album, Faithfully. She also sang backup for Missy Elliott on her Miss E…So Addictive third single “Take Away”.

In 2003 however all three ladies reunited to give the fans one more album, which became their most critically acclaimed yet underrated album to date. Star became an instant fan favorite when it was released in March 2003 and made the Top 50 on the Billboard 200 despite the lack of promotion from their label.

The girls worked with singers Mario Winans, Faith Evans and Clipse and producers The Neptunes, Mike City, Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs on the project crafting some of their best work to date. Shortly after the release the ladies disbanded unfortunately for what would be their last time. However they left us with one of the hottest girl group album’s of the 2000’s.

In case you haven’t gotten into Star, the entire album is a banger! We couldn’t choose just one song, but we’ve added just a few of our faves from the project. Do yourself a favor and purchase it if you don’t already have it! You can thank us later.
