Its that time of year again, where the biggest and brightest in urban music, film, television and sports come together at the BET Awards. This years show is set to take place live on Sunday June 29 from LA’s Nokia Theater and today the official nominee list was revealed. Additionally the network announced the show’s host will be Chris Rock.
“We’ve been trying to make this happen for a VERY long while, and we’re ecstatic that Chris Rock will be the host of the BET Awards for the first time,” said Stephen Hill, president of Music Programming and Specials at BET in a statement. “Mr. Rock is a comedic genius with a rapier wit who is a keen observer of pop culture.”

As far as the nods, Mr. & Mrs. Carter are nominated for a total of six awards, with four each under their belt — the overlap comes where the duo are nominated together for best collaboration and video of the year for “Drunk in Love.”
Beyoncé will face off against herself for that video of the year nomination, as her “Partition” clip is also up in the category. Her final of the four nominations is for best female R&B/pop artist.
Elsewhere Justin Timberlake squares off with Chris Brown, John Legend, Pharrell Williams and newcomer August Alsina in the ‘Best Male R&B/Pop Artist’. It will also be battle of the divas in the ‘Female R&B/Pop’ category. In addition to queen Bey, Rihanna, Janelle Monae, K. Michelle, Tamar Braxton and Jhené Aiko will battle it out.
