Brandy is reacting to the ongoing criticism of her recent performance during the NBA All Star Game.
After taking center court for the televised performance, the vocal bible found herself at the center of a social media debate.
While many fans praised her signature tone, vocal control, and decades-deep legacy as one of R&B’s most respected vocalists, others took to social platforms with critiques about the arrangement and delivery. As we’ve seen time and time again in the social media era, nothing goes untouched by commentary.
The Grammy-winning icon shared an Instagram post on Wednesday (Feb. 18), addressing the chatter, making it clear that she stands firmly in her artistry.
In her message, she acknowledged the mixed reactions while expressing gratitude for the opportunity to perform on such a major stage. She emphasized that every performance is given with intention, heart, and authenticity — and that she remains proud of the moment.
She also gave a special shoutout to June’s Diary for lending their harmonies to the performance — a moment she says she’s incredibly proud of — and to Pharrell Williams, who recently encouraged her during Grammy weekend to consider opening a music school for vocalists. She teased that she is now taking his advice to heart.
From the #TheBoyIsMine Tour to the 2026 NBA All Star Game – during one of the most controversial renditions of my career, (which I am so proud of with @junesdiary)
@Pharrell and @lousivuitton and @ThomBrowne understood the assignment – I needed to feel confident and like a beacon of light!!! Pharrell, it’s time for me to open up that school you were telling me about, and to extend the anointed oil for vocals. Thank you and God bless you my Iconic friend.
