On Saturday, April 23 the singer was the focus of Centric’s retrospective documentary series, Being. The special featured commentary from her closest friends and family including her parents, Willie & Sonja Norwood, her brother Ray J, producer & friend Rodney Jerkins and more.
Brandy opened up like never before on her rise to fame, her successes as well as the struggles she has faced including her infamous 2006 car accident, the controversy surrounding her 2001 marriage/divorce, the death of her friend and mentor Whitney Houston and more. Speaking on ending her business relationship with her mother/manager, Brandy reveals that she was seeking independence and wanted to take her career into her own hands. She also acknowledges that her most successful years were under her mother’s leadership.
