Empire season 2 has been on winter break for a few weeks now but that hasn’t stopped the show from continuing to dominate as one of TV’s biggest shows. It was just announced that the FOX series has been renewed for a third season, as if that is a surprise to anyone.
The network has given an early renewal to the series, which has averaged a whopping 21.2 million viewers across multiple platforms and a 7.3 rating among adults 18â49 for its second season when including DVR playback. Plus Empire was recently the only broadcast series to earn a Golden Globe nomination for best drama, while star Taraji P. Henson won the Globe on Sunday for best leading actress in a TV drama.
Empire launched midseason on Fox last year and became a ratings phenomenon. Fox then added the show to its fall schedule this season. While ratings have remained dominant, the numbers have slipped a bit near the showâs winter finale from its prior heights. When Empire returns on Wednesday, March 30, the series will once again be paired with American Idol, which provided the drama with a helpful lead-in last season.Â
Congrats to the cast and crew! Empire returns to FOX on Wednesday, March 30.
