It’s been a a little over a week since the tragic and heartbreaking murder of rapper/activist, Nipsey Hussle after being shot dead outside of his Marathon Clothing store in L.A.
Well as fans and supporters continue to mourn emotionally, they are also doing so with their dollars. Nipsey’s first and only album, as well as previously released mixtapes have gained major steam and topped the Billboard 200 according to reports:
Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap re-entered the chart at No. 2 after previously peaking at No. 4 when it released in Feb. 2018.
Victory Lap earned 66,000 equivalent album units for the week ending April 4, gaining a 2,244 percent increase over the previous week’s performance. 17,000 of that figure was album sales, which rose 7,205 percent.
Elsewhere on the chart, four of Nipsey’s previously released mixtapes have made their debut: 2013’s Crenshaw, 2016’s Slauson Boy 2, 2010’s The Marathon, and 2014’s Mailbox Money hit No. 63, 109, 179, and 192 respectively.
Nipsey’s memorial is set to take place this Thursday at the Staples Center in L.A according to TMZ:
The family of slain rapper Nipsey Hussle will give him a spectacular memorial service at the gold standard for L.A. venues — the Staples Center … TMZ has learned.
Sources with direct knowledge tell us, the service will take place Thursday morning at the 21,000 seat venue. We’re told tickets will be available for the event through a website. Only ticket holders will gain admission.
Our sources say there was a meeting Wednesday with Nipsey’s family and honchos from Staples. LAPD officials were also present in the meeting to help plan logistics and security for the event.
It’s a massive undertaking to plan such a major event in less than a week. Staging equipment must be rented, and the rental companies have already been contacted. We’ve learned ushers who work at Staples have already been asked to reserve the day so they can work.
The turnaround for the venue will also be quick — the final Clippers game for the regular season is the night before.
The family of Nipsey shared the official memorial announcement on Monday evening.
