It was announced last week that Madonna would be the sole performer in a Prince tribute that will take place at the 2016 Billboard Awards airing May 22. Upon the news making its rounds, fans of the purple one were stunned and frustrated that Madge would be the one chosen to honor the late singer.
So frustrated that they have started a Change.org petition to get Madonna off the bill and to get more of Prince’s peers and friends included in the performance.
“We cannot let Madonna be the main and only artist tributing Prince during the 2016 Billboard Awards,” it reads. “He is more than worthy of a better choice as a main performer. Please sign and share this petition so that we can get a proper tribute on May 22, 2016. Timing is tight! Spread the word.”
At the time of posting, the petition had reached almost 5,000 signatures. Based on some of the comments in the petition, fans have suggested performers such as “Lenny Kravitz, Mint Condition, Sheila E, Chaka Khan” to be the tribute’s main performer instead.You can view the petition HERE.
