We’ve seen snaps of the new cast for the upcoming Power Rangers movie, including the Rangers and a total revamp to Rita Repulsa but now we have a first look at the Ranger’s hot new 2017 gear! Via EW:
When the Power Rangers revival morphs into theaters, the five teenagers with attitude wonât be wearing the original seriesâ campy costumes to battle Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks). Instead, the new cast â singer Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy â will don translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies.
The sartorial update may look radical, but the outfits are visual throwbacks to the franchiseâs long-running mythology. âThe show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,â director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) says. âThese suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.â
The spandex-free makeover also helps set the film apart from other big-screen franchises. âItâs tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,â production designer Andrew Menzies (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) admits. âOurs is an alien costume that grows on them, thatâs not man-made. You canât win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.â Fans like the Yellow Ranger herself. âItâs the coolest costume ever,â Becky G says. âIâm gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years.â
