Kim Burrell appeared on The Tamron Hall Show on Thursday and attempted to throw her usual dose of messiness and shade but was quickly shut down by Tamron Hall slightly and politely.
During the show, the controversial gospel performer reflected on the massive backlash that she received followed after her homophobic sermon in 2017 went viral. That incident and the singer’s strong anti-LGBTQ stance caused her to lose endorsements, radio and TV deals, gigs, and other things she had in the works at the time.
Speaking on the matter with Tamron the singer revealed that she was hurt by the lack of support by some of her peers including former friend Yolanda Adams.
“I was disappointed, because we’ve all shared the same stage, back rooms, and green rooms, and some of their public display in conversation is somewhat opposite of what it is behind stage.
“I would’ve much preferred, especially dealing with the gospel, Yolanda Adams, we’re both from Houston, Texas, to pick up the cell phone and say, ‘Hey, I have a career to save, and I can’t agree with your stance right now, I need to say something different to my public.’ I would’ve preferred that.”
Tamron, who is close friends with Yolanda, quickly shut the topic down to avoid it getting messy, and took to Yolanda’s defense.
“Let me be clear here. Yolanda is a friend of mine and I am also from Texas. I don’t know what happened behind the scenes.”
“What I was asking, if you wanted more time for, you said there was more of a back story to what you said on the pulpit, not the interpersonal relationships of two people…”
She also addressed her more recent scandal regarding some controversial statements she made during a recent gig where she was booked to sing and her apology that came afterward.
