Mint Condition is getting the band back together — and it’s happening in the city where it all began.
The legendary R&B band has confirmed that Stokley Williams will reunite with his Mint Condition bandmates as part of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis’ “Homecoming: A Celebration of the Minneapolis Sound” at the Minnesota State Fair.
The massive one-night celebration takes place Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand and will bring together some of the biggest names connected to Minneapolis’ legendary music scene.
While Stokley was initially announced individually as one of the evening’s special guests, Mint Condition has now confirmed via the group’s social media that they will be coming back together for the special occasion.
The reunion is particularly exciting for longtime fans who have waited years to see Stokley back alongside the musicians who helped create Mint Condition’s signature sound.
Mint Condition’s classic lineup included Stokley Williams, Homer O’Dell, Lawrence “Larry” Waddell, Jeffrey Allen, Ricky Kinchen and Keri Lewis. The group became one of the premier live R&B bands of the 1990s, delivering classics including “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes),” “U Send Me Swingin’,” “What Kind of Man Would I Be,” “You Don’t Have to Hurt No More,” “Forever in Your Eyes” and “If You Love Me.”
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis played a major role in Mint Condition’s story after discovering the young band during a performance at Minneapolis’ legendary First Avenue in 1989. The production duo subsequently signed Mint Condition to their Perspective Records imprint, where the group released its 1991 debut album, Meant to Be Mint.
Stokley eventually stepped away from the group to pursue his successful solo career, beginning a new chapter that included solo hits such as “Organic,” “She” and “Woman.” Mint Condition, meanwhile, has largely remained away from the spotlight as a full recording and touring unit in recent years.
Mint Condition won’t be the only major name involved.
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis’ Homecoming concert is set to feature an all-star lineup that includes Morris Day, Jerome Benton, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant, Shanice, Yolanda Adams, Ruben Studdard, Jordan Knight, Ann Nesby, Sounds of Blackness and more.
Jam & Lewis themselves are among the most influential producers and songwriters in music history, with a catalog that includes work with Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Usher, Boyz II Men, New Edition and countless others.
But their connection to Mint Condition makes this particular reunion especially full-circle.
More than three decades after Jam & Lewis helped introduce the band to the world, Mint Condition and Stokley are coming back together on a Minneapolis stage as part of a celebration honoring the very musical movement that helped create them.
Is this simply a one-night reunion — or could this be the beginning of a larger Mint Condition comeback, reunion tour or even new music?
