Over the past month I’ve become a fan of two brand new shows, FX’s ‘Atlanta‘ and Netflix’s original series ‘The Get Down.’ Both respective series kicked off their first seasons this past month and are hands down becoming some of my favorite must see shows.

So needless to say, I was crushed when I heard over the weekend that ‘The Get Down’ was reportedly set to be cancelled by Netflix, due to low ratings from the streaming service. Now new report is claiming that the show has not been cancelled. According to the report published on Sunday (Sep. 25)

A rumor of Netflix canceling The Get Down is circulating the Net, but supervising producer Nelson George said the reports are false.

“Yo The Get Down has not been cancelled,” George posted on his Facebook page, after confirming the statement to Okayplayer. “Please don’t forward that silly report. Our status will be determined next year. Part two comes this spring.”

The report George is referring to is by the site MovieNewsGuide. The story itself only cites speculation, while a misleading headline says that the show has been canceled.

This is the second rumor to circulate about The Get Down. Last weekend, a link made its rounds on the web about an open casting call for the next season of the show.George also squashed those rumors, explaining that the link was actually an old casting call for the first season that was just spread around again.

However it is also reported that the official ratings stats for the show have not been released just yet so we’re not sure how well the series did for Netflix.

While George said the show is returning for a second season, the show’s reception was still mixed. Netflix hasn’t announced official viewership numbers, but Variety cites data from third party metrics that indicate “tepid reception” compared to other Netflix originals.

The show also received a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to ratings of 95% and 96% for Stranger Things and Orange Is The New Black. Primarily positive reviews, but expectations for the show were high since The Get Down was reported to the most expensive Netflix original series to date, with costs of $120 million.
